Tim Dorofeyev is the guitarist who took over the leadership of Jazz Group Arkhangelsk
after the passing of its leader Vladimir Rezitsly. In 2005 Tim promoted the first ethno-jazz
festival in Russia for which he put together a ten-piece band. This CD, which was recorded
live at that festival, is an organic blend of Russian northern folk songs and mugam, which
is a very old cyclic musical form based on Azerbaijany modes. To the people of Azerbaijan
mugam is what blues is to black people in America.
